Welcome back to Kingstown: The McLusky saga intensifies
Taylor Sheridan’s gritty crime drama Mayor of Kingstown is returning for a fourth season on Paramount+, and it promises to be its most volatile yet. As the series continues to explore the fragile balance of power in a town dominated by prison politics, police corruption, and street gangs, new characters and looming threats shake the foundations of the McLusky empire.
In this new season, Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) is more battle-worn than ever, caught between upholding order and dealing with criminal alliances that seem to outpace him. As always, Kingstown remains a powder keg where loyalty and betrayal walk hand in hand.
What happens in season 4 of Mayor of Kingstown?
Season 4 opens in the aftermath of last season’s bloody confrontations, and the city is anything but calm. With the Russian mafia expanding their grip and the Aryan Brotherhood vying for control inside the prisons, Mike’s efforts to mediate peace grow increasingly futile.
A new adversary, Konstantin, emerges as the face of the Russian syndicate. Charismatic yet lethal, his arrival disrupts long-standing criminal hierarchies and forces Mike to reconsider who he can trust. Meanwhile, Kyle McLusky (Taylor Handley), who has long grappled with his moral compass, faces a personal descent into darkness after a prison raid gone wrong leaves him psychologically shattered.
The season also deepens its exploration of the prison industrial complex. Flashbacks and real-time chaos inside the penitentiary reveal the harsh lives of inmates and guards alike, blurring the line between order and anarchy.
Who are the new characters and what role do they play?
This season introduces several pivotal characters. In addition to Konstantin, viewers meet:
- Ava Navarro, a relentless FBI agent determined to dismantle corruption in Kingstown, who forms an uneasy alliance with Mike.
- Dmitri Orlov, a brutal Russian enforcer with ties to global trafficking networks.
- Isabel (portrayed by a yet-unnamed newcomer), a prison therapist whose methods and motivations become increasingly ambiguous.
These additions inject new energy into the show’s already complex narrative. While some offer hope of reform or resolution, others bring further chaos.
As always, Sheridan’s writing doesn’t offer easy heroes. Every character is marred by compromise, making their arcs compellingly human.
Will there be a season 5 of Mayor of Kingstown?
While Paramount+ has yet to officially confirm a fifth season, insiders suggest that Taylor Sheridan has already mapped out future storylines. Jeremy Renner’s commitment to the role and his remarkable return to set after a life-threatening accident hint at a long-term vision for the series.
“There’s more story to tell,” Renner said in a recent Variety interview. “Mike’s journey is far from over.”
Given the rising popularity of the series and Sheridan’s ongoing partnership with Paramount+, a renewal seems highly likely.
